Common Man CEO Elected to National Hospitality Training Board

LAS VEGAS, NV - Hospitality executives and managers from across the country recently elected Common Man CEO Jason Lyon as a new board member of the Council of Hotel & Restaurant Trainers (CHART) at the organization’s annual meeting in Las Vegas.

Lyon, 41 of Holderness, has served in several leadership roles for CHART, including as a two-time conference team member, as a speaker on Philanthropic Branding at regional conferences and as a first time attendee mentor at six conferences. Over the course of the next year, he will focus on driving and retaining membership. Lyon has been active with the non-profit organization, which is dedicated to training in the hospitality industry, since 2006. Lyon has participated in regional training events and CHART’s annual CHART CARES service days.

Lyon began his career in hospitality at age 14 as a dishwasher at the flagship Common Man restaurant in Ashland, NH. Over the years, he worked his way up through many positions, being named CEO of the company by owner Alex Ray and Vice President Diane Downing in 2000. Beyond his various executive roles within The Common Man, Lyon speaks locally and nationally about the Common Man's philanthropic efforts and counsels businesses and organizations on making charitable giving part of their business models.

A 1994 graduate of Plymouth State University, Lyon has a degree in business finance management with an economics minor.  He graduated Summa Cum Laude and was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.  Lyon was inducted into the Inaugural PSU Business Hall of Fame in 2009 and is a member of Delta Mu Delta. Lyon also developed the Common Man Apprentice Program with PSU, serving as a mentor to more than 700 students since its inception in 2005.

Lyon is Food Managing Professional (FMP) certified, ServeSafe certified and TEAM certified. He is a current board member of the New Hampshire Lodging and Restaurant Association (NHLRA), serving on the organization's Marketing, Membership, and Government Affairs Committees, and organizes The Common Man Invitational Golf Tournament each year, of which proceeds are donated to local charities and The Common Man’s employee scholarship fund.  Additionally, he sits on the advising board for SubitUp of Manchester, NH. Lyon is a volunteer for the Ashland Fabulous 4th Committee, and donates his time to numerous other community events.
