CHICAGO, IL – Common Man family CEO Jason Lyon returns to the board of directors for the national Council of Hotel & Restaurant Trainers (CHART) as elected by members at the organization’s recent annual meeting in Chicago.
Lyon, 42 of Holderness, NH is the CEO of The Common Man family of restaurants in New Hampshire, and has served for the past year on the CHART board as well as in several leadership roles for the organization since becoming a member in 2006. He will focus on membership education initiatives and conference content as the Vice President of Education. Lyon is a two-time conference team member, has spoken about Philanthropic Branding at regional conferences and has been a first-time attendee mentor at six conferences. Lyon has participated in regional training events and CHART’s annual CHART CARES service days.
Lyon began his career in hospitality at age 14 as a dishwasher at the flagship Common Man restaurant in Ashland, NH. Over the years, he worked his way up through many positions, being named CEO of the company by owner Alex Ray and Vice President Diane Downing in 2000. Beyond his various executive roles within The Common Man, Lyon speaks locally and nationally about the Common Man's philanthropic efforts and counsels businesses and organizations on making charitable giving part of their business models.
A 1994 graduate of Plymouth State University, Lyon has a degree in business finance management with an economics minor. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Lyon was inducted into the Inaugural PSU Business Hall of Fame in 2009 and is a member of Delta Mu Delta. Lyon also developed the Common Man Apprentice Program with PSU, serving as a mentor to more than 900 students since its inception in 2005.
Lyon is Food Managing Professional (FMP) certified, ServeSafe certified and TEAM certified. He is a current board member of the New Hampshire Lodging and Restaurant Association (NHLRA), serving on the organization's Marketing, Membership, and Government Affairs Committees and is a member of the board of directors of the Got Lunch program in Ashland. Additionally, he sits on the advising board for SubitUp of Manchester, NH. Lyon organizes the annual Common Man Invitational Golf Tournament, of which proceeds are donated to local charities and The Common Man’s employee scholarship fund. He is also a volunteer for the Ashland Fabulous 4th Committee and donates his time to numerous other community events.
